Auto Accident:

Rear-end collision

A 68-year-old man was stopped at a red light in Minneapolis when he was rear-ended by an inattentive driver. After months of conservative treatment with no relief of his pain, this gentleman underwent injections in his back and eventually endured surgeries on his lower back. The insurance company doubted that these severe injuries could be related to this modest rear-end collision.

How we helped

However, Paul Otten fought vigorously on behalf of his client and succeeded in getting his medical bills paid, his wage loss reimbursed and they eventually settled the case for more than a half of a million dollars.

Wrongful Death:

Drunk driver

An 18-year-old girl on her way to work and preparing to begin her college career was tragically killed by a drunk driver. The drunk driver pled guilty to criminal vehicular manslaughter and was sentenced to prison.

Diligence and compassion

Paul Otten's diligent pursuit of the insurance claims on behalf of the grieving family, which included a visit to the prison to get a recorded statement, resulted in recovering the policy limits from both insurance companies involved. While no amount of money can compensate for the loss of a loved one, Paul Otten's careful, compassionate and considerate representation makes the process easier for the surviving family members.

Medical Malpractice:
Difficult Cases

Medical Malpractice:

A failure to respond

A young mother was admitted to the hospital for a scheduled induction of labor. However, the nurses and doctors failed to notice and properly evaluate the mother's labor, and failed to recognize and respond to non-reassuring fetal patterns in a timely manner and take proper action to eliminate fetal distress via Ceasarean section. As a result of this negligence, the baby suffered severe injuries including quadriplegia, seizure disorder, eating difficulties and cerebral palsy and was otherwise severely and permanently injured.

Family compensated

Fortunately, Paul Otten, along with another attorney, were able to achieve financial compensation for the baby and her family. Medical malpractice cases are extremely difficult and costly to pursue. We must prove that the doctor breached the standard of care. This must be confirmed by another doctor in order to begin the case. An experienced attorney is required to pursue a medical malpractice claim because there are often millions of dollars at stake for a lifetime of care.

Dog Bite:

Strict liability

A 10-year-old girl, riding her bicycle with her sister in her own neighborhood, was knocked off of her bike and bit by an unchained and unsupervised dog, sustaining bites to her head. In Minnesota, dog bites invoke "strict liability" which means that unless you provoke the dog, the dog owner is automatically responsible for any injuries.

Insurance settlement

Otten was able to collect significant compensation for the injured girl ffrom the dog owner's homeowners insurance and had the settlement approved by the Court, which is required for anyone under 18 years of age.
